| | | | | | | | | | 1933 Indian™ Chief | 1946 Indian™ Chief had a new hydraulically dampened girder fork derived from the Indian Military Model 841. Only the Indian™ Chief was manufactured by the Indian Motorcycle Company™ in 1946 | The 1934 Indian™ Chief had for the first time a luminated speedometer. Speedometers came with different faces. | The 1947 Indian™ Chief was the only production motorcycle produced by the Indian Motorcycle™ Company. But with only a few changes from 1946 being the Indian head front fender light and the Indian Script on the fuel tanks. | 1935 Indian™ Chief started to follow the lead of earlier Indian models with a swooping valanced front and rear fenders. Nickel-plated cylinders and cylinder heads were standard on the Indian Chief, on both the standard and the "Y" motors. The Indian Chief also had a optional magneto ignition system. | Again in 1948 Indian™ Chief was the only motorcycle in production. Again only a few changes from the previous year being a new design with a gear driven oil pump and a beautiful new instrament panel that offered a generator light as opposed the the ammeter. Also a new front wheel driven speedometer. | 1936 Indian™ Chief was the first year for a distributor ignition. The new battery ignition systems were used on the 1936 Indian Chief all the way through the 1953 Chief. A "Bug Strainer" air horn was first added on the 1936 Indian Chief previous years had a circular shapedair horn the "Bug Strainer" was almost tear drop shaped. | | 1937 Indian™ Chief the gear shift was moved to the forward tank area on the right side of the tank. Because of this change linkages were added between the lever on the side of the fuel tank to the transmission. The Indian™ Chief had an optional magneto ignition. | The 1950 Indian Chief had a newly designed telescopic front forks a 80 cubic inch 1300 cc engine. Indian extended the stroke by an 1/8" from 4-7/16" to 4-13/16", the bore diameter stayed the same at 3-1/4". The chief front fender was shortened and the rear fender skirt was shortened. | 1938 Indian Chief and the Four both shared the same girder styled leaf spring fork. The Chief had added a tank top instrument panel, the speedometer and ammeter were gray faced with red lettering and a gray colored ignition switch. The Indian™ Chief also recieved new cylinder designs, different valve guides and larger cooling fins within the exhaust area. The Chief also recieved different pistons and other internal parts. | | | | Shirted fenders are in on the 1940 Indian™ Chief and other models. A full chain guards and even rear suspension. The Chief had a sprung frame along with the Four. The Indian Chief also recieved new more streamlined cylinders and heads. | | | |
